Replacing an outside fitting on the same point is often a tidy small job when the current cable run,
mounting surface and protection are already suitable. Outside work still needs more checking than an
indoor fitting swap: the new fitting needs to suit the location, the seals and cable entries need to be
sound, and the current point has to be safe to reuse. If you want the fitting moved, need a brand-new
point, or the old setup looks damaged, the scope or next step may need to change before booking.
When it usually stays a neat small job
There is already an outside light or similar fitting in roughly the right place.
The replacement fitting suits the location and the existing mounting surface.
The job is mainly safe replacement, setup and testing rather than adding new outdoor power.
What to send first
Your postcode.
2–4 photos: the current fitting, the wall or mounting surface around it, the wider entrance or path
area, and the switch or control point if that is easy to show.
Any product link or model number for the new fitting, plus a note if the current light trips, fills
with water, or has awkward PIR behaviour.
What can change the scope
Water ingress, brittle cable, loose fixings or signs of previous improvised work can stop it being a
simple swap.
A much larger fitting, a different bracket, or sensor setup that needs rethinking can change the time
and parts needed.
If there is no suitable current point, or the fitting really needs moving, the sensible next step is
broader outdoor-lighting work rather than a quick swap.
