Frequently asked questions

The grouped answers below cover the questions that come up most often before booking.

Quotes, pricing and booking

These questions help decide the best option: small jobs handled by David, smart-home setup, fault finding first, a written quote, or work that needs registered electricians, notification or certification.

How much do you charge?

Most jobs start with the normal £100 first visit. A £50 call-out is a narrow Brent/core-area exception only for very local, simple, low-risk work that already looks clear from the photos. Follow-on small-job time stays at £50 per hour once the next step is clear. Larger multi-step work is quoted in writing once the scope is clear, and wider-area visits are confirmed from the postcode before booking.

What should I send for a fast quote?

Send your postcode, a short description, 2–4 clear photos, and how you want the reply. If you have already bought products, include model names, links or a photo of the label so compatibility can be checked early. WhatsApp is usually quickest when photos matter.

Do small jobs still make sense to book?

Yes. Small jobs are a core part of the service, especially in lived-in homes where a few tidy fixes, replacements, smart-control adjustments or handover notes make day-to-day use easier.

What happens if the job turns out wider than it looked in the photos?

If the existing wiring, access or wider scope changes the best option, that is explained before work carries on. The aim is to restate clearly whether the better next step is fault finding first, a written quote, or work that needs registered electricians, notification or certification instead of letting the job drift.

Compliance, paperwork and attendance

These answers explain how work is handled when it needs certification, notification or another electrician.

How is notifiable work handled?

David handles first checks, direct small-job work, automation design and practical implementation installations that stay in scope. If the real scope becomes notifiable or otherwise needs registered electricians, notification or certification, that is explained before booking, including who handles that attendance or paperwork.

Who handles certification?

I’m not personally registered with a competent person scheme, so I do not self-certify notifiable domestic work. Where certification is required, registered electricians working with me handle that part, and I explain who does what and what paperwork belongs to the job before you commit.

Who will attend - you or someone else?

Most small jobs, automation design and practical implementation installations are handled by David where the scope stays suitable. If the work needs registered electricians to attend or certify part of the job, that is discussed before booking so you know who is doing what before you commit.

Will you share my details with anyone?

Only when needed to deliver your quote or job - for example, if registered electricians are quoting, attending or certifying work that needs them. Enquiry details may come through phone, text, WhatsApp, email or the site form, but only the minimum needed details are shared and your information is never sold. See the privacy notice for the full details.

Smart-home and easier-living questions

These questions come up when the real goal is easier daily use, clearer handover and compatible kit rather than more gadgets.

Can smart-home work help if switches, heating or the front door are awkward to manage?

Yes. Some smart-home work is mainly about making everyday use easier rather than adding more features. Better lighting, clearer heating control, doorbells, alerts or shared access can reduce extra steps and make the home easier to live with.

Will the setup stay simple to use?

That’s the aim. I keep device names clear, avoid over-complicated routines, and hand everything over in plain English. Where possible, I prefer setups that still leave normal manual control available as well, so the home does not depend on remembering a complicated app sequence.

Can you work from notes from family, carers or an occupational therapist?

Yes. If you already know which parts of the daily routine feel awkward, send that with your enquiry and I can scope around it clearly. I keep the discussion practical: what needs to be easier, who needs to use it, and what should still work manually.

Do I need to know exactly which products to buy before getting in touch?

No. Start with what feels awkward now and what you want to make easier. If you have already bought products, send the model names, product links, photos and any app or hub details you know so I can sense-check compatibility and the best option.
