USB means the common charging connection built into some sockets. USB-A is the older rectangular connection; USB-C is the smaller reversible connection used by many newer devices. The connector name alone does not promise a charging speed. Charging speed depends on the socket, cable and device, so use the maker’s specifications for the exact combination.

Check the product before buying

  • List the devices and cables you expect to use, and send the exact socket model or product link before booking.
  • Check whether you need USB-A, USB-C or both, but use the maker’s specifications for power and charging support rather than the connector shape alone.
  • Choose a product with clear manufacturer details, installation instructions and electrical ratings that suits the existing point. USB sockets can need more back-box depth and wiring space than a standard socket.
  • A normal socket with a separate charger may be easier to update when charging standards or devices change.

If the USB outlet has stopped charging

  • Try one known-good cable and one known-good compatible device only when the socket, cable and device are dry, cool and undamaged, with no burning smell, buzzing or crackling, sparks or smoke, shock or tingling, water, or repeated trips.
  • Check the device’s normal charging settings and maker guidance. Never insert a tool into a USB port or mains socket, and never remove the plate.
  • If more than one cable and device fail at the same USB outlet while the normal socket still works, the USB part may need checking or replacement.
  • If any of those warning signs is present, stop using the point and describe the symptom instead of testing it again.
