Before changing the accessory, the electrician should isolate the supply and prove it is dead, check the point and the relevant part of the circuit, fit the agreed item securely, carry out the checks that apply, and explain the result. If something unexpected is found, you should be shown the issue and given the options before extra work goes ahead.

What a careful visit should include

Confirm the exact point, product and finish before work starts, and protect the surrounding surface as far as the job allows.
Leave the new plate secure and aligned, with the worked-on area clean and any decorative making-good clearly identified.
Restore power only after the relevant checks, then explain normal operation and any document that applies.

If the point is different from expected

A damaged box, heat-affected connection, brittle cable end or previous hidden alteration may need a different repair from the one first discussed.
The electrician should pause, show you the finding and explain the safe options, price and likely finish before separate work goes ahead.
